 ĦĦĦĦ The wax gourd was first planted in 1988 in Lanhe
Town.From 1988,the town became the vegetable base for Guangzhou.The
area for planting wax gourd is continuously expanding and the
planting scale is becoming bigger and bigger,from intercropping to
whole-cropping,from a period a year to 3 periods a year,playing the
important role in supplying vegetables to Guangzhou in the off
seasons.Wax gourd was planted about 6218 mu and intercropping area
was about 1527 mu in the year 2000 in the whole town.The total
output was about 21,000,000kg.The income from wax gourd covers 54%
of the whole income from vegetables.ĦĦĦĦIn the past, black-skinned wax gourd was planted in the town, but the farmers did not plant it at a right time. As a result that the total output was very low,the quality was very bad and it did not sell well. To meet the demands from the market and make the wax gourd storable for a long time,farmers adusted the supply of the vegetables in the seasons of Spring and Autumn of our city,to improve the planting technology and the economic benefit,from 1994,our town set up the sample base,playing close attention to the introducing of the new seed brands and new technology,experiments and playing an examplary role,anaplication and destimination,helping the farmer plant wax gourd in the right time,set up the good brand for wax gourd. ĦĦĦĦTo improve the quality of the wax gourd,these year,the town enhaced the introducing and breeding of new seed brands,introducing Nanhai Black-skinned Wax Gourd,Zengcheng Wax Gourd and Dongguan Daojiao Wax Gourd and so on.Afer serval yearsĦŻ effort,we have chosen and breed the wax gourd which are fit for planting and the demand of the market,in place of the local black-skinned wax gourds.This kind of wax gourd has the following outstanding characteristics.1,fit for export,size is neat,the body is even,the colour is bright.2,fit for transportantion and storing for a long time,the skin is glossy,55-60cm long.3,a nice taste,the thick and dense pulp, a sweet taste,rich in nourishment. ĦĦĦĦTo plant the wax gourd,the farmers pay closer attention Ħ°earlyĦħ,they deal with the field,sow seeds ,manage and send it to the market earlier than before.The wax gourd from our town are sent to the market about 15-20 days earlier than those from other areas so that the farmer can get better benefit.The Lanhe Wax Gourds can be planted from one period a year to three periods a year.They plant wax gourd from Novemer to February each year,harvesting in April to June.They also plant it in May and harvest in July and August,the output is very good. ĦĦĦĦTo establish the good brand of Lanhe Wax Gourd,the process of producing the wax gourd in the bases is inspected and controled by the technicians of the town,from the aplication of the fertilizer to the use of pesticide,it is strictly controled.In accordance with the regulations of the green foodstuff producing,the pesticide is used strictly to ensure the safty and the quality of the Lanhe Wax Gourd and enhance the competitive edge for domestic sale and exporting.At the same time,The brand label Ħ°Lanhe Wax Gourd Ħħis stuck on the product that is up to the standard which is effective.The wax gourd from the town sells well in the seasons of Spring and Autumn. ĦĦĦĦBecause of the short growing period and the good benefit,the farmers take vigourous action in planting Wax Gourd.The planted area is bigger and bigger year after year.In 1996,the planted area was 3,000mu.In 1998,it wass 4100mu.In 1995,it was 6850mu and it is 7700mu in 2000.The wax gourd is supplied to the market of guangzhou.It is also supplied to Zhejiang,shanghai Jiangsu,Henan and so on.As mall part is exported to Hongkong,Macau,Singapore and so on. |
