　　In the 1970s, Dongchong town started to plant Board Field Cabbage Heart. At that time, the agricultural structure of our town focused on two kinds of crops primarily. They were paddy rice and sugar cane. The production layout was extremely unitary, so the economic efficiency was not high. After the harvest of late ripening rice in 1997, in order to increase the farmers’ income and improve their living conditions, Board Field Cabbage Heart was planted experimentally in the rice paddy fields in Guantan Village of Dongchong Town, and achieved success. This inaugurated the precedent of Board Field Cabbage Heart in Panyu.
　　The so-called Board Field Cabbage is created by sowing the cabbage seeds immediately in the rice paddy fields without raking and smashing the earth after harvest. This can not only save manpower and physical resources, but also catch up with the vegetables sowing seeds season promptly. After harvesting the cabbages, the massive roots, stems and leaves are left to become organic fertilizers which has improved the land structure and enhanced the soil fertility, increasing the output of the crops. And the villagers have tasted the benefit. Therefore, the production of Board Field Cabbage develops rapidly, and the sown area expands year by year. In 1980 the sown area was only 197 mu, occupying the rice paddy area 0.74%. After 1997, the sown area maintained above 10,000 mu every year. In 2000,the sown area achieved 12,300 Chinese acres, occupied the paddy rice area 67.6%, provided the vegetables amounting to 12.3 million kilograms for the market. This makes it one of the pillar industries of agriculture in Dongchong Town, and has received higher authority's praise and awards many times.
　　In recent years, Dongchong Board Field Cabbage Heart has come into the market in the beginning of October, gaining the market initiative. The primary breed is the Celebrative Abundant Green 50 Days Cabbage Hearts. It is widely known and deeply popular with the consumers and vegetable venders for its characteristics of glossy green and blade thin leaves with few textile fibers, tasted evenly fresh and tender, fragrant, smooth, sweet and delicious.
