 Lvcun Village lies in the middle of Lanhe Town.
Thanks to the fertilized soil, the villagers grow Black Skin Sugar
Cane, and this has become the main source of income for local
farmers. The total growth area in this village is 2424mu, among
which 1750mu, they grow Black Skin Sugar Cane, covering 72% of total
growth area. In 2000, the total income of the village reached
7,080,000RMB by growing Black Skin Sugar Cane, covering 62.6% of
their total income.Lvcun Village has a long history of growing Black Skin Sugar Cane since the Reforming of Land. In 1950, people in this village began to grow Black Skin Sugar Cane. But the growing area was comparatively small, only 60mu. With the direction of the local government and the farmers¨ awakening economic interests, they began to grow more and more, so the yield is much higher than before. The growth area, in 1984,was 100mu, in 1985, 300mu, it was 1200mu in 1990. In order to improve their income, the leaders in the village managed to enlarge the sale sources. They organized the growers to take their Black Skin Sugar Cane to Shanghai and Zhengzhou in Henan Province. They found a ready market there. At the same time, the leaders directed the farmers to improve the quality, they use no-poison pesticide and fertilizer. With years of hard work, Lvcun Black Skin Sugar Cane forms their special features as follows: the skin is oily black without any inset holes; the stem is tall and straight; the stalk is crisp and sweet. Owing to its higher quality, the Black Skin Sugar Cane has set up a ready market, the price is 3 or 5 yuan per dan higher than that of the other villages. This, on the other hand, strengthens the confidence of growers and the growth area rises from 1200mu in 1990 to 1750mu in 2000, the yield per mu rises from 5 or 6 tons to 7or 8 tons. The Black Skin Sugar Cane is becoming one of the best productions in Lanhe Town, because of its wide growth, high quality and good sale sources. It has also become the main source of the growers income. At present, the growth of Black Skin Sugar Cane is so good that it will be surely a bumper harvest this year. |
